Overview
The Wisconsin & Southern Railroad (WSOR) unveiled this Strides Against Cancer car in December of 2007 in memory of Lucy Stone Gardner, late wife of WSOR owner Bill Gardner. He wanted to commemorate her valiant effort and raise awareness with this striking boxcar.
This 50' double plug door insulated boxcar will carry canned goods throughout the country. No expense was spared in making this prototype car special. It was completely sandblasted and an epoxy primer coat was applied before the durable urethane color coat. The roof was also treated with a urethane silver coat to help prevent rust from bleeding down the sides.
Athearn is proud to partner with Bill Gardner and the Wisconsin & Southern Railroad to bring this unique and important car to HO layouts everywhere. In addition, for every car sold Athearn will make a donation to the breast cancer fund of the American Cancer Society.
