Muscungus Bay Lobster Smacks were built from the 1860s to the turn of the century. These small sloops could be easily worked by two men. Noted for their speed, these handy and seaworthy craft were used along the Maine coast for catching lobsters, and for transporting them from islands to central shipping ports.
