The 9th Annual Charity Race was a huge success. I would first like to thank all those who attended the race. The grand total was 160 entries! Our biggest Charity Race ever. If I might say so myself, the day went very smoothly. We averaged 2-1/2 hours a round, and that was with 18 heats! Luckily we got all the racing in before dark, that left time to give out all the door prizes in the dark/ under the lights!
With all the participants help we raised $1,500. The charity this year was Laurel Regional Hospital.
We got to the track at 7am to get setup, and the Glen Burnie crew was already there ! The track was set-up by 8am, and practice was on. Practice went pretty smooth, except for the frequency clip hogs :). The track was shut down at 10:45 for the drivers meeting , concourse, and the posting of the heats( all 18 of them ).
When the qualifying got started the racing was hot right from the start. It was very evident that you had to have a very good run to make the A or even the B mains. The competition this year was very stiff. Even though this is a Charity Race, and everyone's main focus was to have fun, the racing was tight.
After all the qualifying was done it was time for the mains. The two largest classes were: Super Stock Electric ( 54 ), and 4WD Nitro Mod.(45). The A mains in each of these classes were separated by less than 18 seconds. The B-C mains were just as tight.
The Cruiser class featured all 16 cars in the main. The focus of the Cruiser Class is to have fun, and beat up your buddies cars, with rules like: you must first hit the car to pass the car! ,and when your car color was called out you have to run and hide , cause all the cars are after you !
The Mini class was dominated by Mike Keely, the race for second was hot, and contested by 7 cars for the entire race.
Tamiya Stock class was once again wrapped up by Isaac Wilson. It wasn't easy for him, he was chasing Matt Jarret for a long time, until Matt had some trouble. The best battle in that race was the one for second between Anthony Martell and Fred Johnson.
The TLO1/Spec class is were all cars are exactly the same. It comes down to driving fast and smooth, and Rodney Davis showed the way.
Nitro mod was the fast and loud guys, and man were they fast. They were the fastest cars of the day. The fastest time of the day was an 18.4 by Vincent Jackson. The A main of Nitro mod was a 10 minute run, with pit-stops included. It was an amazing race with 9 out of the 10 cars finishing the race. The B-main was closely contested with the winning margin only 3 secs.
The Super Stock electric class was the biggest class of the day. The qualifying was so tight that the positions were separated by tenths of a second. Billy Spence took top honors of the day. One of the drivers in the A smoked a motor trying to keep up the pace. The Super Stock class had mains down through the F main, and there was great racing through all the mains.
Once again I would like to thanks all the racers, Wal-Mart, Hobby Works, and especially all the companies that donated race prizes:
Tamiya
Horizon Hobbies
Competition Products
Hobby Works
I hope all of you had a good time,I know we did, so until next year;
See you at the races,
Casey
